Paul’s ministry to the Thessalonians had been cut short because of persecution, and he was concerned about their endurance as brand-new Christians. Would their faith survive? But after visiting Thessalonica, Timothy returned with a good report. Their faith had stayed strong, even in the face of persecution. Can you imagine the joy Paul must have felt at hearing this good news? Timothy and Paul both encouraged the Thessalonians’ faith, and then the Thessalonians’ faith encouraged Timothy and Paul. Today, we can also be encouraged by reports that show the faithfulness of God’s people. Through His Church, the gospel keeps moving forward.
In Vietnam and Guinea, two recent testimonies shared by AGWM personnel offer a small glimpse into all that God is doing through believers around the world.
In Da Nang, Vietnam, a woman unexpectedly died while her husband was at work. Hearing the news, he rushed home and was met by a crowd of his Christian friends. The doctors said it was too late and nothing could be done, but God had a different plan.
An AGWM worker in the region described how the man and his friends began praying for his wife. God miraculously reached down and raised her from the dead. News of this miracle has had great impact in the community, and a church is currently being planted there.
In Guinea, a separate community has been affected as Christians and Muslims came together to build tabernacles. According to AGWM missionary Rick Caswell, most Muslims in West Africa are willing to earn money by welding or mixing concrete to help build Christian churches. Through this cooperation, Christian pastors and church members have been able to share the gospel with their Muslim neighbors.
Paul was willing to take risks for the sake of the gospel. The Thessalonians followed his example—ready to give up their lives for Jesus. Countless Christians around the world have made the same commitment. AGWM missionary Moriah Thompson puts it this way: “If we’re going to say something, it absolutely must be led by the Spirit, otherwise it’s a waste of breath because you might not see that person again. When we’re working together, we cannot neglect to speak up and say ‘Jesus.’”
Through Rick, Moriah, and many others like them, God continues to establish His Church—not just in Vietnam and Guinea but across the globe!
